U.S. Firms Cautious About Investment in China Despite Improved Results

American companies in China reported improved financial results for 2023, but remain cautious about increasing investment in the country amid bilateral tensions and regulatory challenges, a survey showed Thursday.

Nearly half of the 343 U.S. companies surveyed between October and November believe their China operations were profitable last year, with 12% expecting them to be “very profitable,” a 5 percentage point improvement from 2022, according to a report from the American Chamber of Commerce in China (AmCham China).
