Cao Xin, the 30-something founder of Tianli (Shanghai) Asset Management Co. Ltd., died on Jan. 31 due to mental health issues, sources familiar with the matter told Caixin.

The death of Cao has captured the attention of the investment community in China.

Founded in 2016 with 100 million yuan ($15.1 million) in registered capital, Shanghai-based Tianli focuses on private equity (PE) investments. The company, wholly owned by Cao, currently runs two PE funds, according to the Asset Management Association of China.
