China’s private equity market has faced heightened geopolitical risk since last year and as a result many multinational private equity companies have had to split their Chinese and American investment teams and asset portfolios or refocus their Asia strategies.

A United States congressional committee in July launched an investigation into four venture capital firms over their investment in Chinese technology companies, the latest sign of Washington’s increasing scrutiny of U.S. funds suspected of helping develop sensitive industries in China.
