China is grappling with a shrinking population and the country’s kindergartens are bearing the brunt of the declining birthrate, with nearly 15,000 closing last year alone, recent government data showed.
Most of the shuttered kindergartens were private institutions, which are also suffering due to the poor implementation of subsidy policies and growing competition with their public counterparts, Caixin learned.
