Since last summer, Beijing and Washington have accelerated efforts to mend frayed ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden spoke by telephone Tuesday, the first one-on-one conversation since their meeting in California in November.

Xi reaffirmed commitments made during his meeting with Biden last November and said, “the China-U.S. relationship is beginning to stabilize,” according to a statement issued by China’s Ministry of Foreign affairs. The Chinese president also warned about growing negative aspects in the relationship and called for attention from both sides.
