China’s Top Court Highlights Juvenile Crimes Following Brutal Teenage Slaying

Four minors between the ages of 12 and 14 have been sentenced to at least a decade behind bars after being convicted of criminal offenses since 2021, the country’s top court has revealed, noting a rise in juvenile delinquency in recent years.

In addition, more than one fifth of minor defendants involved in violent crime cases in the past three years were left-behind children, according to data from the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), highlighting the importance of family supervision while calling for a gradual establishment of an independent juvenile justice system.
