The case of a 10-year-old boy surnamed Sun who faced “extreme” bullying by his peers at school has drawn public outrage on social media over its handling, with some netizens criticizing the punishment given to the assaulters and their parents as being “too lenient.”

The two assaulters, who are both 9 years old, were “admonished” by the local police department in Datong in East China’s Shanxi province, and told to undergo psychological counseling and behavioral correction. Their guardians were also required to get guidance on family education.
