At least 48 people have died after a section of highway in South China’s Guangdong province collapsed following days of heavy rain, local authorities said Thursday afternoon.

The authorities said at a news conference that the identities of three other people have yet to be confirmed and that DNA testing is underway. They did not specify whether the three are alive or dead.
