In Depth: Maternity wards are latest victim of China’s falling birthrate
China’s hospital maternity wards have fallen victim to the record-low birthrate and are facing a similar fate to preschools as more wards close or downsize as demand for obstetrics declines.
As of March, at least 35 public medical institutions in China had stopped delivering newborns over the past three years, with 10 doing so in the first quarter this year, according to a count by Caixin.
