A rundown of the news making headlines in and around China:
Huawei: Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.’s new version of its mobile operating system will no longer support Android-based apps. HarmonyOS NEXT, unveiled by Huawei’s consumer business group Chairman Richard Yu on Tuesday, is built entirely independently of Android architecture. The operating system has some 15,000 native apps and services, compared to the millions on Android and Apple Inc.’s iOS. Huawei launched the operating system in 2019 as a countermeasure to the U.S. sanctions that banned Android developer Google from doing business with the Chinese tech giant.
