A rundown of the news making headlines in and around China:
Sales speed up: BYD Co. Ltd.’s share of China’s fast-growing market for new-energy vehicles (NEVs) continued to expand in the first two months of this year. Over 1.4 million NEVs were sold in the period, an increase of over one-third, with some 400,000 of the cars made by BYD, giving it a 28% share. The firm also made about half of the NEVs China exported in the period. While the company cut prices in 2023 and 2024, amid an industrywide price war, early this year it pivoted to a strategy of offering more for the same price, adding smart driving technology to 21 of its models for no extra charge.
