No tariff talks: China isn’t engaged in any trade talks with the U.S., a foreign ministry spokesperson said. President Trump’s tone has softened in recent days, saying this week that the current tariffs are “too high” and previously claiming that his administration was “talking to China” after Beijing “reached out a number of times.” In response to a question on the topic, a spokesperson said “This is misinformation. To my knowledge, China and the United States have not engaged in consultations or negotiations regarding the tariff issue.”
