Meet us halfway: In a meeting with the new U.S. ambassador, China’s foreign minister urged Washington to follow Beijing in upholding the “important consensus” reached between the countries’ leaders in January. Voicing regret over recent “negative measures” targeting China that the U.S. has taken for “unwarranted reasons,” Wang Yi told David Perdue that the U.S. should meet China halfway and create the “necessary conditions for Sino-U.S. relations to return to the right track.” According to a Chinese government readout of the meeting, Perdue said President Donald Trump has great respect for President Xi Jinping.
