A rundown of the news making headlines in and around China:

BYD in Brazil: The first car rolled off the assembly line Tuesday at BYD Co. Ltd.’s Camaçari manufacturing hub in Bahia, Brazil. The hub — built in just 15 months — had originally been scheduled to be up and running in the second half of 2024, but its opening was delayed until this year. The hub had been involved in a labor dispute while under construction. In December, Brazil’s labor ministry announced it was shutting down parts of BYD’s construction site, citing severe violations of worker protection rules. BYD aims for the site to serve as a strategic hub for the company’s push into the Latin American market.
