Xu Kunlin, governor of the eastern economic powerhouse of Jiangsu, has been appointed the Communist Party chief of Liaoning, a northeastern rust-belt province, Xinhua News Agency reported on Tuesday. The 60-year-old succeeds Hao Peng, who is stepping down from the post at the age of 65.
The appointment, announced by the Communist Party’s Central Committee, marks Xu’s second posting in a top provincial-level role. The move coincided with the appointment of former Guangdong Governor Wang Weizhong as party chief of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
