Listen to the full version

China is now classified as having a “lower-moderate” incidence of tuberculosis, the World Health Organization (WHO) said, marking the first time it has reached this category.
The country’s estimated number of new TB cases fell to 696,000 in 2024, a 6.1% drop from the previous year, with an incidence rate of 49 per 100,000 people, down 5.8%, according to the WHO’s Global Tuberculosis Report 2025 released Wednesday. The progress moved China from the third- to the fourth-highest country in terms of new cases, placing it in the “lower-moderate” incidence category.
