Chen Shifei, former deputy head of China’s National Medical Products Administration, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for bribery. The Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court announced on Wednesday that Chen was also fined 4 million yuan ($580,000).
The court found that between 2003 and 2024, Chen abused his positions — which included serving as deputy director and director of the Zhejiang Food and Drug Administration, as well as deputy head of the national administration — to assist others in securing permits and licenses. In return, he illegally accepted money and property worth over 46.43 million yuan, either directly or through his relatives.
