Super Typhoon Bavi Bears Down on China, Threatening Widespread Flooding

Super Typhoon Bavi is bearing down on the eastern seaboard of the Chinese mainland, threatening to bring destructive winds, towering waves and torrential rains to a vast stretch of the country already reeling from severe floods.
As of 8 p.m. Wednesday, Bavi was about 1,370 kilometers southeast of Keelung, Taiwan, moving west-northwest at 15 to 20 kilometers per hour. The storm, with a cloud system stretching more than 1,300 kilometers, is expected to hit northern Taiwan on Saturday before approaching Fujian and Zhejiang provinces on the mainland coast and then moving inland.
