Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) startup StepFun is stepping into hardware with an AI-native smartphone, hoping to gain more control over how consumers interact with AI services as it prepares for a Hong Kong listing.

At a launch event in Shanghai on Monday, StepFun introduced Step AOS, its proprietary AI operating system, along with the personal AI agent Amoo and the STEPX terminal brand.
