Listen to the full version

Hong Kong is grappling with a renewed surge of Covid-19 and seasonal influenza, with health authorities warning that the city has entered a new active cycle of coronavirus infections that is hitting a near-one-year high.
Over the past four weeks, the city recorded 45 severe Covid-19 cases among adults, resulting in seven deaths. The vast majority of the severe cases — 80% — involved patients over the age of 65. More than 90% of these older patients had chronic underlying health conditions and had not received a Covid-19 booster shot within the past six months. Additionally, two severe pediatric cases involving unvaccinated children were recorded in June.
