China Must Upgrade Its Industrial Tech to Meet Climate Goal, Expert Says

The industrial sector will be the primary focus of China’s efforts to peak carbon emissions by 2030, a goal that must be achieved through technological advancement rather than merely shrinking demand, according to the head of the Energy Foundation.

The focus underscores the critical role of the industrial sector — which accounts for more than half of the country’s carbon emissions — in determining whether China’s total emissions can soon begin to decline amid surging electricity demand from AI data centers, residential electrification and the service sector.
