China has unveiled a sweeping climate roadmap that aims to cut carbon emissions per unit of GDP by 17% by the end of the decade from 2025 levels and expand its carbon trading market, reflecting the nation’s determination to accelerate its transition to a greener economy.

The roadmap, jointly issued by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and several other government departments on Wednesday, marks the first time that Beijing has systematically integrated a full-spectrum climate target into its five-year plan, signaling a critical push to decarbonize its industries.
