China Aims to Clarify Liability for Autonomous Cars

China’s top legislature has begun reviewing a draft revision to the Road Traffic Safety Law that would hold carmakers or importers legally responsible for traffic violations committed by vehicles operating autonomously.

The proposed legislative update is expected to provide a nationwide legal framework required for the large-scale commercial deployment of self-driving cars on public roads as top automakers and suppliers increase bet on the technology.
