China Sentences Ex-Shanxi Governor to Death With Reprieve in Graft Case

Jin Xiangjun, the former governor of China’s coal-rich Shanxi province, was handed a suspended death sentence on Tuesday for accepting more than 148 million yuan ($22.05 million) in bribes, making him the latest high-ranking casualty in Beijing’s relentless anti-corruption campaign.

The Xinyang Intermediate People’s Court in central Henan province ruled that Jin abused his power over two decades across three provinces to secure lucrative project contracts, orchestrate business deals and facilitate political promotions.
