Hong Kong Raises Cash Bonuses, Tax Breaks to Encourage Larger Families

Hong Kong is stepping up efforts to counter a shrinking population, unveiling a new round of incentives on Wednesday that includes larger cash payouts and tax breaks for families with more than one child.

Chief Executive John Lee announced 11 pronatalist measures in his 2026 Policy Address. The centerpiece is a higher cash bonus for second and subsequent children: HK$30,000 ($3,824), up from HK$20,000, for babies born on or after Sept. 16.
