Trump, Xi Toast U.S.-China Ties at White House State Dinner

(Washington) — U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping used a White House state dinner Thursday to emphasize cooperation and a more stable relationship between the world’s two biggest economies, capping a day of talks that put trade, technology and their broader strategic rivalry in the spotlight.

Trump and first lady Melania Trump hosted Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, in the East Room, part of Xi’s first White House visit in more than a decade. The dinner followed meetings earlier Thursday between the two leaders.
