Xi, Trump Tout Trade Progress and Push to Stabilize U.S.-China Ties

(Washington) — Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to broaden their framework for bilateral relations, pledging to build what they called a “constructive strategic stability based on mutual respect, fairness and reciprocity” after a tea chat at the White House on Friday, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency.

The two leaders also said their governments had made mutually beneficial progress on trade and economic issues, though neither side disclosed details of any agreements. Trump said the results would be welcomed by U.S. farmers, while Xi said the outcomes would benefit people in both countries and be welcomed internationally.
