A Chinese court sentenced former Wuhan Mayor Zhou Xianwang to 14 years in prison for taking more than 60.5 million yuan ($9.04 million) in bribes over more than two decades, according to a ruling announced Saturday.

The Shangqiu Intermediate People’s Court in Henan province also fined Zhou 5 million yuan and ordered the confiscation of recovered proceeds from his crimes, including any returns they generated. Authorities will continue efforts to recover the remainder, the court said in a statement posted to its WeChat account on Oct. 10.
