Tianneng Battery Group Co. Ltd. has launched sodium-ion batteries for electric two- and three-wheelers, targeting the light electric vehicle market with a lineup that includes models designed for extreme cold.

The launch reflects Chinese battery makers’ efforts to position sodium-ion technology between low-cost but heavy lead-acid batteries and more energy-dense but expensive lithium-ion alternatives. A recent consumption tax exemption could help improve sodium batteries’ price competitiveness, though costs and an immature supply chain remain obstacles.
