Hong Kong Resists Mass School Closings Amid Covid Surge

(Bloomberg) — Hong Kong won’t consider mass school closings even as the number of Covid-19 infections soars citywide, officials said. Authorities are monitoring outbreaks in specific classes so they can take action if needed, they said.

The government set a threshold of about 10% of students infected in a single class for deciding when targeted cancellations should be implemented, a rule of thumb established as tens of thousands of children return to school with the start of a new academic year. If several classes are affected in a single school, it may close, officials said.
