Verdict Issued in Patrol Officer Brutality Case

The controversial issue of patrol officer violence resurfaced October 25, when an officer received an 11-year sentence for beating a man to death.

Issued by a court in the northeast province of Liaoning, the ruling comes as many local governments in China are trying to address incidents of violence between citizens and China's city patrol officers, who are charged with handling low-level crime and clearing away unlicensed vendors.
