China has returned to the top of the medals table after briefly falling second to the United States, but these victories by Chinese athletes have been stained. First was the doping allegation against Ye Shiwen, who won the 400 meter and 200 meter individual medley events; then was the badminton duo who were disqualified from the women's doubles for match-throwing; then came the women's cycling team that was relegated for breaking a rule; and most recently a furor arose after Chen Yibing missed the gold by a small margin after a seemingly impeccable performance in the men's rings.
