In the past 30 years, China has attained unprecedented economic achievements and become the second-largest economy in the world, despite incompatibilities between its political system and its social environment.

But the economy also faces various challenges: a fragile resource environment, an aging population, the unresolved status of basic private property rights, non-optimal company ownership structures, a government-led growth model in need of adjustments, financial risks of the foreign exchange stacked up through an export-driven economy, etc.
