Closer Look: Why Yuan Rebound Carries Little Weight in Long Run

The yuan exchange rate has rebounded in the last few, defying a months-long trend.

On October 15, the central parity rate of the yuan against the U.S. dollar was 6.3112. One week ago, it was around 6.34. The appreciation was remarkable.

Until very recently the yuan had been pressured to depreciate against a strengthening U.S. dollar. The exchange rate had climbed from the low point of 6.27 in May to around 6.34 from August throughout early October.
