The announcement by Jack Ma on January 15 that he was resigning as CEO of Alibaba raised questions over who the next top manager of the e-commerce giant would be.

It has also prompted another question: Does it matter?

Ma provided few answers. In an email to employees, he said he would remain as executive chairman of the company that runs Taobao and Alipay, and a new CEO would be chosen by May 10.
