Former Railway Minister Gets Suspended Death Sentence

(Beijing) – A court in Beijing handed former railway minister Liu Zhijun a suspended death sentence for corruption on July 8.
Liu, 62, had been convicted of taking 64.6 million yuan in bribes and abusing his power. He received the death penalty, but that was suspended for two years. Liu is unlikely to be executed because in China suspended death sentences are normally commuted to life in prison.
