Closer Look: Bo Trial Produced Mix of Drama, Defiance

(Beijing) – The most dramatic scene during the trial of Bo Xilai, the former Politburo member and Communist Party boss of the large southwestern municipality of Chongqing, occurred on the afternoon of August 24. This was when ex-Chongqing police chief Wang Lijun appeared in court to testify that his former boss abused his power.

Wang's testimony in the Intermediate People's Court in Jinan, in the eastern province of Shandong, lasted about 100 minutes. Wang said that on the morning of January 29, 2012, Bo denounced and beat Wang in front of others. This was a day after Wang told Bo that his wife, Bogu Kailai, was involved in the death of British businessman Neil Heywood.
