Public Criticizes Private New Shanghai Hospital for Being Too Expensive

(Beijing) – A new private hospital in Shanghai that charges patients up to 1,200 yuan to see a doctor has drawn criticism from the public for catering to the well-off in a society where frustration with medical attention has often led to violence.

However, one expert at Peking University says the opening of Shanghai International Medical Center (SIMC) is the natural result of reforming the health care industry and it may benefit society by encouraging competition among hospitals, which would result in better services.
