Why Chinese Firms Fail to Address Patent Risks

Two companies leveled patent infringement charges against Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Inc. in December, underscoring the tough conditions for many Chinese companies facing patent disputes at home and overseas.

Ericsson Corp. filed a lawsuit against Xiaomi in an Indian court claiming patent infringements related to technologies such as 3G wireless. The court then temporarily suspended sales of Xiaomi devices in India.
