Wang Jianlin's Son Sparks Internet Frenzy After Chinese Team Wins Gaming Championship
After a Chinese team won a high-profile gaming competition this week, the son of one of China’s richest men took to social media to celebrate. He caused quite a stir.
Wang Sicong, who owns the Chinese team, called Invictus Gaming, is the son of Wanda Group founder Wang Jianlin, China’s fourth-richest man.
On Tuesday, Wang Sicong announced on Weibo that he would be doling out over a million yuan ($144,000) to people who reposted and liked his post celebrating the Chinese victory at the 2018 League of Legends final.
“I’ll randomly pick 113 people from comments/reposts/likes and send 10,000 yuan ($1,400) in cash to each," Wang wrote in the Weibo post. The post so far has been shared over 15 million times, and has received over 13 million likes and five million comments.
China's gaming sector is booming with revenue of 65 billion yuan in 2017, research by iResearch showed.
