Shenzhen drunks beware — you may have to walk home from that party.

Chinese car-hailing leader Didi Chuxing said it receives an astounding 30,000 complaints per day about drunk passengers. And so it is rolling out trial strategies to deal with them.

The new rules are being tried first in Shenzhen for Didi’s Premier and Express service users, the company said.

Drivers can now use the Didi app to report if a passenger is drunk. They can also cancel an order if they feel the drunk passenger may endanger the safety of the trip. Otherwise, the ride will continue.

Didi said abuse of the system by drivers — “malicious cancellation” of rides — will be strictly prohibited and severely punished.

The rules go on to say that, if a drunk passenger hits or threatens the driver, the trip can be terminated and the passenger driven directly to a nearby police station. Passengers will also be charged fees if they vomit in or on the car, Didi said. Once at their destination, if passengers fall asleep or refuse to leave, drivers can contact Didi for further assistance.

The company did not say how long the trial period will last. Didi said it will improve the rules based on feedback from the trial and will gradually apply the rules to more areas.
