Staff at Baidu started their first working day of 2019 with good news from founder and CEO Robin Li: the company’s total revenues for 2018 surpassed 100 billion yuan ($15 billion), far higher than the previous year’s 85 billion yuan.

The exact figure for 2018 was not made available.

In an email sent to employees this morning, Li said the new revenue record is a "milestone" in Baidu’s growth.

“On the one hand, the historical transformation of artificial intelligence is penetrating various industries, incubating massive potential for further development. On the other hand, economic growth changes and industrial restructuring are as cold and real as winter to every company. It is high time that Baidu stepped forward.”
