Xi Jinping Calls for Unity Between China, U.S. in Pandemic Fight
What’s new: Chinese President Xi Jinping called for “unity” between China and the U.S. in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic during a phone conversation with his American counterpart Donald Trump on Friday, the official Xinhua News Agency reported (link in Chinese).
Trump said he will make efforts to ensure that both countries focus on cooperation in the fight against the epidemic without distractions, according to the report.
China is willing to continue to share information and experience about epidemic control with the U.S. “without any reservation,” Xi said, adding that Chinese local governments and enterprises have been aiding by providing medical supplies for the U.S.
The call was made at the invitation of the U.S. side, according to Xinhua.
What’s the background: The U.S. has outpaced China to report the most coronavirus cases in the world since late Thursday local time, which totaled nearly 86,000 as of the end of the day.
