BMW’s Use of High-Density Batteries Raises Safety Concerns

BMW AG is using high-density “811” batteries made by Fujian-based Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. in its new iX3 model electric cars.
That’s put the spotlight on the technology, which can ensure a longer driving range, but has raised questions in the industry over their safety and stability given the high-density energy they produce.
Some experts have said that such technology may, in some cases, be getting rushed to market without sufficient testing.
