Chipmaker MediaTek Inc. has released a new 5G smartphone chip that is set to power devices on the market in the first quarter of 2022.

At a virtual launch event on Thursday, it was announced that the Dimensity 9000 chip would be adopted by Chinese smartphone manufacturers including Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo.

First announced in November, the chips will be made by the world’s largest contract chipmaker by market share, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd., using its advanced 4-nanometer (nm) processing technology.
