China Offers After-School Sports Classes a Leg Up Following Private Tutoring Crackdown

China has introduced new guidelines for the after-school sports tutoring sector in a sign of support for additional physical education, a sharp contrast with the sweeping overhaul of private tutoring for school curriculum subjects.

A document issued by the General Administration of Sport (GAS) of China has laid out requirements (link in Chinese) for sports teachers and coaches’ credentials and supervision of course fees, with the aim to improve the management of sports classes, and “promote healthy and orderly development of the sports training market.”
