Wisk Aero LLC, a maker of autonomous electric flying cars, has received a $450 million investment from Boeing Co., giving the California company a boost in its race to market against Chinese rivals.

The money will be spent on developing an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicle which it hopes will be its first product to obtain an airworthiness certificate in the U.S., Wisk Aero said in a statement on Monday.
