President Xi Jinping has called on BRICS countries to jointly safeguard world justice and oppose hegemony and bullying, as the “unprecedented challenges” brought by the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine crisis threaten global security and development.

At the annual BRICS summit Thursday, a virtual meeting with leaders from Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa, Xi said “our world today is overshadowed by the dark clouds of Cold War mentality and power politics, and beset by constantly emerging traditional and non-traditional security threats,” the state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.
