Beijing Mayor Chen Jining Appointed Shanghai Party Boss

What’s new: Beijing Mayor Chen Jining has been appointed the Communist Party chief of Shanghai, replacing Li Qiang who joined the country’s top leadership last week.

Chen’s appointment was announced at a meeting of leading cadres in Shanghai on Friday, the state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.

Beijing’s deputy party boss, Yin Yong, has been named both deputy mayor and acting mayor of the capital following the Beijing municipal legislature decision to accept Chen’s resignation as mayor, according to official newspaper Beijing Daily.
