‘Shackled Mother’s’ Husband Sentenced to Nine Years in Prison

What’s new: The man who left his wife and mother of his eight children shackled to a wall in rural eastern China has been sentenced to nine years in prison in a case that sparked outrage about domestic abuse and human trafficking in the countryside.
Dong Zhimin, the husband of the “shackled mother,” was convicted of abuse and illegal detention, a local court said in a statement Friday. Five others were sentenced to prison terms ranging from eight to 13 years for abducting the woman.
